Study Opportunities

The English Literature Major exposes students to major authors, works, literary movements, and ways of thinking about the literature of England, as well as literature in the English language that has been written outside these geographic borders. Students will acquire knowledge of the historical and critical contexts needed for evaluating literary works. Emphases on reading, analytic writing, and critical study are designed to satisfy both the needs of the undergraduate seeking a broad humanistic education and those of the scholar contemplating graduate study. Studying English literature is a way for students to expand their literary and cultural horizons and to equip themselves for a constantly changing global market.
